Reviving the YouTube Channel
Reviving my old YouTube channel has been on my mind for ages, and the moment to press the power button again has finally arrived.
I miss having a place to show my work, share what I learn, and rant lovingly about the tech that keeps me awake at night.
Back to the future
If you never stumbled upon it, the channel was called Platypus Tech.
Back in the day I posted tutorials and deep dives into mobile modding. The adventure began in 2016 when I imported my first Xiaomi phone straight from Shenzhen. Europe had no trace of Xiaomi yet, so the device arrived with Chinese firmware and apps. I spent nights flashing a cleaned-up MIUI build that was free of bloat and ads, and then hit record to tell the story.
Those early clips blew up. The first uploads crossed one hundred thousand views each, and the channel sailed past half a million views overall.
And then?
The numbers were climbing, the comments were pouring in, and my reaction was perfectly logical:
I let the channel die.
Why?
Let’s say the uploads stopped around the end of 2019. From that point on, life looked something like this:
- I finished high school
- I started my first job
- I relocated to Milan
- And soon after, the world was hit by COVID
In short, everything hit at once and I was completely overwhelmed.
At the same time the modding scene was losing steam. Xiaomi officially entered Europe, and the thrill of hacking together a usable ROM faded.
I made a mistake
I ignored the channel for years. When I finally opened the dashboard I found dozens of messages asking where I had disappeared, a few even annoyed about the silent shutdown of the Telegram group.
That wake up call hurt, because one thing the last few years taught me is this: creating something of your own beats everything else.
I had that. And I stopped.
So now, what?
I think it’s finally time to bring the channel back to life. I already have a few ideas for what I want to do with it.
As I mentioned in the previous blog post, the YouTube channel will be closely connected to this website. Almost every video I publish will have a matching blog post here.
The blog, as you can see, is written in English. The videos, though, will mostly be in Italian (my native language). Some might be in English too, but don’t count on it.
The topics will likely cover:
- My personal projects
- Technology
- Artificial Intelligence
- Random thoughts and commentary
Hope you’ll enjoy what’s coming!
